How does it work?

I’ll come to your home to meet you, and you can invite close friends and family to join the conversation. We’ll chat and you can tell me everything you’d like to share about the person who has died, so I can really understand who they were, the things they enjoyed doing and what mattered to them. I’ll look at photos and mementos and we’ll talk about the atmosphere that you’d like conveyed, and the practical issues which will arise on the day. We’ll agree what contributions to the ceremony you and others might like to make, be it reading a tribute or a poem, lighting candles or placing a card or keepsake on the coffin.

Then I will write a humanist ceremony which is completely personal and unique. It will reflect and celebrate the life of the person who has died. Together we’ll find music, poetry and readings that feel right to you. You will see a draft before the service, and can make any comments and changes that you wish.

“Thank you for such a memorable service. Your tribute to my husband brought him very close to his family and to me”

On the day I will liaise with your chosen funeral director and ensure that everything is organised at the chapel or memorial venue. I will conduct the service sensitively and professionally, allowing everyone time to cherish memories of the person you have lost, and to mourn their passing. To reflect on the happy times you spent together and to acknowledge the unique contribution they made to the lives of those around them. This will be a great send-off.
